Mérida, Yucatán — The White City is growing in popularity among travelers on Easter break. Much more rapidly, in fact, than any other holiday destination in Mexico.
Mérida and its coastal communities have tracked a 72 percent increase over last year’s bookings.
The international travel agency Despegar that specializes in the Latin American market ranked Mexico’s three fastest-growing cities for Semana Santa travel:

Despegar’s report noted the difficulty in finding available flights from Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara to Mérida. Mérida and Yucatán are “in fashion” nationally and internationally, so flight and lodging reservations are tight, according to the report.
Despegar was founded in 1999 and has a presence in 21 countries. It is Latin America’s largest travel agency, according to its own biography.
