Not canceled: 300 gather in Merida for big business event
Not all large gatherings are canceled in Merida. The 104th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, which will be attended by about 300 people, convenes today.
Despite the fact that the state government and the Merida City Council passed various measures to suspend massive events — like its highly anticipated tourism fair — Concanaco decided not to suspend its own meeting. Opening ceremonies were Friday night at the Canaco building on Avenida Itzaes, followed by a cocktail party at a major hotel on Avenida Colon.
Meanwhile, bars and nightclubs across Merida have been ordered closed and restaurants are closing at 10, and leaning on takeout or delivery service.
For merchants, sales are reported down an average of 40 percent as citizens stay home and avoid the coronavirus.
The 10th meeting of the vice presidency of International Affairs of Concanaco is also scheduled for today, along with the 14th meeting of representatives to the IMSS, both in Canaco Mérida and later, a banquet at Hacienda Xcanatún.
In the afternoon, the 104th ordinary general assembly of Concanaco will be held, led by its president, José Manuel López Campos, also its headquarters.
