Mérida, Yucatán — The community bike ride through the Centro Historico celebrates nine years today.

The municipality will celebrate the popular Bici-ruta with a number of sports and other attractions for the whole family.

There will be raffles of various items, including bicycles.

As many as 3,000 participants take part in the Bici-ruta each Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The city closes streets from La Ermita to the Montejo Ford dealership past the Monument a la Patria, forming a makeshift linear park. They also set up hydration stations, offer live music, volleyball and children’s shows along the way. These activities will be more pronounced this Sunday for the anniversary, starting at 10 a.m.

If you don’t have wheels, the municipality has 70 free bikes which you can borrow for an hour. Bike rentals will also be available.
