Tango benefit concert at San Pedro Church of Cholul

Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol de Cholul

A tango concert for the benefit of the nonprofit organization EdúcaTE Yucatán AC takes place Wednesday at 7 p.m..

The performance will take place in the colonial church of San Pedro Apóstol in Cholul.

EdúcaTE Yucatán provides tutoring, after-school sports, arts programs and free school supplies to children in Cholul.

The group is working with 150 children and youth in the community, supporting them with educational training through various programs: academic, psychological, sports, choir, music and sex education.

The concert will connect with the audience through a traditional and modern tango repertoire, with arrangements by Alejandro Pinzón. The performances promise to be characterized by the energy and passionate style that tango lovers enjoy.

The group is under the direction of Alejandro Pinzón, the first Yucatecan with international studies in orchestra conducting. Pinzón has directed orchestras and symphonic bands, chamber orchestras, choirs and opera productions in Mexico, the United States and Argentina.

The concept of “Maestro Tango” by Alejandro Pinzón, is based on the history of the genre, which has been presented in more than a dozen states in the U.S., as well as in Mexico, China, Vietnam, Spain and Greece.

The church, built in the 16th century, is also worth a visit. San Pedro Apostol in Cholul is one of the oldest churches in the area.

Tickets are US$17 and include a cocktail.

Tickets can be purchased by credit card at www.educateyucatan.org.
