The migration of foreigners in historic centers in Mérida and other Latin American destinations is among the topics of an academic seminar that is open to the public.
“Social Subjects and Public Management of Historic Centers,” will be held at the Peninsular Center in Humanities and Social Sciences on Oct. 4 and 5. The seminar will be held in Spanish.
Historic preservation, tourism, inequality and poverty will also be discussed by the panel, which will also analyze current public policy.
Ricardo López Santillán, Cephcis researcher and coordinator of the Red Temática, will discuss studies that evaluate what it means for cities that have attracted expats looking for a new lifestyle.
Case studies will be presented on Mexico’s historic centers at Campeche, San Miguel de Allende, San Luis Potosi, Ciudad Juarez, Oaxaca, Puebla, Taxco, Zacatecas. Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Mexico City and Mérida as well as two Guatemalan cities: Antigua and Guatemala City.
