Wired and Reclaimed at SoHo Galleries in Mérida, Yucatán

A new Yucatán Giving Outreach sustainable project will be launched at the Wired and Reclaimed exhibit.

SoHo Galleries is collaborating with Yucatan Giving Outreach (YGO). A portion of the sales will go to a sustainable community project. Recyclable items will be used to create eco-bricks for food planters in the vulnerable area of San Antonio Xluch III in a squatters’ community at Comunidad Vecinal del Deportivo Sur Distrito XVIII.

This area currently has 37 families and approximately 140 residents. The objective is to make eco-bricks by using recycled garbage and waste by the residents. The food planters, once created, will last several years and can provide a safe, organic location to grow food. Seeds, organic dirt and education will be provided by a team of Yucatan Giving Outreach donors and volunteers.

In three months, the project is expected to yield results, and its benefits should last for many years.

The public is invited to attend and meet the artists. Wine and botanas will be served.

The exhibit begins 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb 4. SoHo Galleries, Calle 60 400A between 43 and 41, Centro, Mérida. Open daily except Sundays 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
